Charles D. Spencer & Associates Sells Family Employee Health and Benefit Information Business Founded in 1946

Charles D. Spencer founded the company that bears his name, Charles D. Spencer &; Associates, in 1946, to publish employee health and benefit information, including what has become the oldest benefits magazine in the U.S. His three sons later joined the business, and when Charles died in 1992, they took over operations. In 2002, as the company approached its 60th anniversary, the family retained Whitestone to sell the business. In 2003, Whitestone closed on the sale of Spencer to Wolters Kluwer, one of the world's most prominent professional information publishers.
