The assets of Charles D. Spencer & Associates, a 50-year-old, Chicago-based provider of print and online pension benefits and compensation information, will become part of Aspen Publishers, a Wolters Kluwer North America company. This is Wolters Kluwer's fourth major acquisition this year (NL/NL 5/17/02). It is also the second major transaction in six weeks completed by the investment banking firm Whitestone Communications, who represented Spencer (and Eli Research in its purchase of Global Success Corporation at the end of March).
Terms of the sale were not released.
The acquisition includes Spencernet.com, a subscription online service that provides in-depth pension compensation and benefits information, updated daily. These extensive online offerings will be merged into Aspen's LoisLaw.com. The purchase also included Spencer's in-house authored, loose-leaf subscription products.
