Newsletter Acquisition Deal Activity Withers In First Quarter

Hotline, April 30, 2001

Investment baking firm Whitestone Communications, Inc., reports that the pace of newsletter M&A activity slowed as the stock market did. There were eight deals in the first quarter, versus 14 in the same period last year. The value of the deals was $14 million, half of last year's $28 million. Whitestone President Baran Rosen explained, "We had a particularly active 2000, so the supply of available companies for acquisition has slowed, and we have a recessionary fear curbing some buyers' appetites and potential sellers' results."
