Baran Rosen, president of Whitestone Communications, Inc., which provides merger-and-acquisition services in the publishing industry, told NL/NL that today is "a great M&A market. Everything's cooking. I wish we could bottle this."
his observation echoes that of other M&A experts we've talked with. It's a sellers market.
At least two prominent newsletter publishers are reportedly looking to sell, although NL/NL was unable to confirm these reports by press time.
HCPro, Marblehead, Mass., purchased through an employee buy-out in late 2002, is looking for a buyer. Similarly, the Concord, Mass.-based World Trade Executive, Inc., is said to have been "entertaining bids" in recent years.
We were also told that Dan Oswald, who purchased M. Lee Smith Publishers in Tennessee less than two years ago, now has the company up for sale. "Not true," Dan told us. He is, however, looking for investors to recapitalize the 30-year-old company.
